Description

The average Black Bear in our area are between 6ft and 7ft squared, although bears up to 7.5ft are not uncommon. Typical skull size is between 18-21 inches. Hide quality of both spring and fall bears is exceptional, with little to no rubbing most years. Black bear numbers are the highest recorded to date in British Columbia, and the population densities in this concession are no exception, allowing for excellent hunter success rates. This outfitter has a healthy number of black bear in the area, and color phase variations are quite common. A hunter can expect to see both the regular black color, as well as a color phase bear (brown or blonde) while on their hunt with us. This is a spring or fall 6 day fully guided 2:1 hunt with option for a 1:1 upgrade.

        Description

This area has a high number of both old and new log blocks, where previously, trees were cut down for their timber. This has created an ideal habitat for bear species, allowing lush vegetation and berry bushes to grow where they would otherwise have been smothered by the canopy cover. A black bear may lose between 25-30% of his winter weight during hibernation, and as a result will target these areas of rich vegetation to fill their empty bellies first thing upon waking. The extensive network of logging roads that were once used to access these areas by the logging companies are now 90% deactivated and are not easily accessible by the general public. This outfitter utilizes both 4×4 vehicles and ATV’s to access hard to reach areas to find where the big bears are living. Spot and stalk style hunting is the preferred hunting method: sitting up high on the mountainside glassing for the bears to feed into the open. Once a bear is located, the final stalk is done quickly and silently on foot. This is a 2:1 fully guided 6 day hunt. All meals and lodging are included.

        Transportation (To/From Basecamp)

The majority of these hunts are conducted from a comfortable basecamp located in the heart of the concession. From here, hunters can easily access Black Bear, Mule Deer, Cougar, and California Bighorn and be back for a night of comfort in the cabins. Camp is located in southern Alberta. During the spring and fall hunting seasons, traveling along the Sea To Sky Highway, or Highway 1 is the recommended travel route for their incredible scenery. For those traveling during the winter season, outfitter strongly recommend traveling the Trans Canada Hwy 1 route; as the Sea to Sky, Hwy 99 route winds its way through high elevation mountain passes, and can be treacherous. For those guests who prefer commercial air travel, Kelowna B.C. (YLW) is the closest airport. Outfitter will meet you upon your arrival for the 4.5 hour car ride to our hunting concession. Pickup and Drop-off from Kelowna is included in the price of the hunt. If hunter desires to be picked up and dropped off from Vancouver, please let the outfitter know well in advance, as arrangements need to be made. A fee of $400 will be added to the price of the hunt for pickup/drop-off to Vancouver. Both Air Canada and Westjet Airlines have regularly scheduled flights daily from Vancouver to Kelowna. This outfitter is located 2.5 hours from Kamloops, British Columbia, or roughly 4 hours from Vancouver.

        Description

Walking or riding E-Bikes quietly down old deactivated roads covered in vegetation is another favorite method of finding these big bears in their natural state. The ideal situation is to catch them unaware during feeding or sleeping near the road systems, and stalk in quietly to get within range. This can be quite exhilarating. The E-bikes allow hunters to see a pile of country in one day, with as much or as little exertion as one would like. While ATV’s or Side by Side’s are great, they are also a bit noisy, and this is when the E-Bikes really shine, allowing hunters and guides to roll around corners and catch the feeding bears unaware, as opposed to them hearing us coming. Upon harvesting game, the guide will field dress, quarter, and care for the transport of the animal. Outfitter does have the option of caping and salting all hides here in camp, though this will take some time away from the hunt. This is a tedious process and great care is taken to ensure proper handling of the hides. If you would like the outfitter to take this time to care for a trophy, they can do so, but please know it will take at least a half to full day of hunting time from your hunt…time you could otherwise use to search for an additional trophy animal. If you choose to continue hunting instead, they can freeze the hides and heads, and transport them at a later date to their taxidermist to be cared for at a later date. The taxidermist reserves the right to charge whatever fee is necessary for the caping and salting of these hides once in his care. Usually this is around $200-$300 for this service. At the end of each hunt, every client will be required to sign a Declaration form, as well as a record of receipt for transporting wildlife. If hunter has a taxidermist back home they would like to use, please provide the outfitter with their contact details so they know where the animal is going. If hunter is planning on keeping some if not all of the meat, please contact the outfitter for further information regarding the proper procedure for transporting meat back into the USA or other international destinations. Hunter can also buy coolers from the outfitter for $50 each, filled with frozen meat to take home. All wild game meat not taken with the client will be used in camp or given to local First Nation families.
