These hunts are spot and stalk hunts with a lot of time behind the glass. Sheep have keen eye sight so hunter will spot and stalk at long ranges. Come prepared for a tough physical hunt at elevations ranging from 4,500 ft up to 11,000 ft. Any serious hunter lucky enough to draw a sheep tag needs to spend a considerable amount of time at the range developing your long-range rifle marksmanship skills. This is a fully guided 10 day hunt with all meals and accommodations provided. This hunt also includes scouting and a professional guide team. Bighorn Sheep have inhabited the Rocky Mountains for hundreds of years. New Mexico has two distinct subspecies of bighorn sheep; Rocky Mountain Bighorn and Desert Bighorn. Hunting New Mexico Bighorn is a rare opportunity and often described as a once-in-a-lifetime hunt. Successfully drawing a tag can feel like winning the lottery as once a ram tag is drawn you are no longer eligible to draw the tag again. New Mexico Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep hunting primarily occurs in alpine elevations in the Pecos, Latir, and Wheeler Peak Wilderness. This area is 12,000 – 13,000 feet and access to this rugged terrain is often on horseback. Hunting is tough and unpredictable. Like any high elevation hunts, the weather can change quickly and only the most physically fit hunters can endure the low-oxygen conditions. The expansive wilderness is a true highlight to any backcountry hunt. Lower elevation Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep hunts can be found in Turkey Creek, San Francisco River, Dry Cimarron and the Rio Grande Gorge. While this habitat is more accessible for vehicles the terrain comprises steep canyons, and tough rock formations to navigate.Hunting for the Desert bighorn sheep, New Mexico’s second subspecies, takes place in southwestern and south-central New Mexico. The warm, dry terrain, and scarce water create an entirely different yet challenging hunt. The herd is known to be easily spooked. Vehicle access is easier than higher elevations however hunters can expect steep, rocky and beautiful slopes filled with cactus. Applying with an outfitter greatly increases your chances of drawing. We have a main lodge for those who enjoy a little privacy with their own room and shower/bathroom. These private suites are available at $100 a night. And include satellite tv and your own private get away. This is a great choice if you wanted to bring your wife along. Enjoy an authentic Southwest meal at the main lodge with other hunters. After a long day in the woods it feels great to kick your feet up and swap stories with other hunters and create new friendships underneath the stars of New Mexico. All lodging is a short walking distance of the main lodge. On the property we have an archery range available and a 700 yard private gun range. You can use our range to sight in your rifle before we start your hunt. We also have walk-in coolers available for $20 a night. This is a great way to hang your ram before taking it to a meat processor or heading back home. With all of our lodging accommodations meals are always the same and sure to give you an amazing taste of what New Mexico food is all about. We have a few options for our lodging and accommodations for the hunters that want to experience the wall tent atmosphere we have wall tents on elevated platforms with wood stove heat, electric ran to them to charge electrical devices. They are outfitted with 4-full size beds with plenty of room for gear. We also have a cabin that is available that is outfitted with 4-full size beds plenty of room for gear and power ran with several electrical outlets to charge phones cameras etc.

Note: We do prepare our delicious food a little on the spicy side so if you have a problem with that we ask that you please let us know ahead of time so that we can help you enjoy your meal all the more. Based on the kind of hunt booked (wall tent or lodge) depending on the unit drawn, the outfitter will supply a full kitchen or field kitchen for meals.

Transportation (To/From Basecamp)

Whether driving or flying, we recommend that you arrive a day or two before your hunt, in order to make sure you are ready for the first day of the hunt. You are responsible for your transportation to and from Albuquerque International Airport, It is a good idea to rent a truck or SUV for the roads you’ll be traveling. Outfitter will meet hunters at their home base bed and breakfast before the hunt starts.

September Archery season can be cool at night and early morning , around 35 – 60 degrees, warming during the day ranging between 50 – 80 degrees. I wear extremely lightweight/breathable camo and layer over top with a vest or jacket for cool mornings, then shed layers before getting warm and sweaty to reduce scent. October gun season can be cold sometimes freezing at night and early morning, around 30 – 50 degrees, warming during the day, ranging between 50 – 70 degrees. I wear lightweight/breathable camo and dress in layers as it can be cold in the morning but warm up quickly during the day.** Rain is possible ** GORE-TEX is a good idea to have. Conditions can also be dry and dusty. Full gear list to be provided if requested when booked.
